For the better part of Friday’s contest between the Burlington and Elkhorn boys’ basketball teams, the Demons were in control.
Things changed a little in the second half, but the Demons still comfortably defeated the Elks 47-35.
BHS is now 4-2 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Against Elkhorn, the Demons allowed just seven first-half points – including just two in the second quarter. But BHS scored just 25 points themselves.
“First half, I thought we played pretty solid basketball,” coach Steve Berezowitz said. “But again, we have to clean up some things.”
Berezowitz also said that the Demons turned the ball over a few too many times. And the team’s offense didn’t quite keep up with the defense.
However, Berezowitz said his team did a good job of “doing the things we wanted to do.”
The turnover situation, the coach added, is being addressed in practice.
“The kids know if we don’t improve on that, we’re holding ourselves back,” Berezowitz said.
Eric Gerber continued to lead the Demons in scoring, posted 12 points and also eight rebounds. No one else was in double figures for the Demons, but four other players had at least five points, including eight from Zach Oldenburg.
Brent Newman and Jake Rios each had eight points to pace the Elks.
