Just how ready was the Burlington High School girls volleyball team Saturday night in its WIAA Division 1 regional final against Fort Atkinson?
So ready that the Demons didn’t allow the Blackhawks a single point in racing out to a 13-0 lead on junior Morganne Longoria’s serve.
That start was indicative of how BHS played in general in routing the Blackhawks, 25-14, 25-13, 25-17.
BHS moves on to tonight’s sectional semifinals at Badger. The Demons will play Milton at 6 p.m., with Kenosha Tremper vs. Westosha Central following at 8 p.m.
After several injuries over the past few weeks, BHS was finally at full strength Saturday – and it showed.
“Basically, it was really nice that we came to play and executed right off the bat,” said coach Dan Lynch. “Of course, we always want everyone healthy, so that helps, too.”
Ciara Capezio, who had sat out for two weeks with a knee injury, returned with a team-high 13 kills, while senior Katie Drohner finished with five kills on 11 attempts.
Emma Ketterhagen and Cassidy Robers added four kills each, while Bridget Vos had three block kills.
Next up for Burlington will be Milton – a team Lynch admitted he doesn’t know much about.
