It says something to the depth of the Burlington/Badger/Wilmot gymnastics team this year that a totally off day can still beat the best in the state.
That was the case Sunday, as BBW topped Franklin/Muskego/Whitnall/Oak Creek and Arrowhead in a tri-meet at Arrowhead High School.
BBW was the state runner-up in Division 1 last year, while Frankego won the state title. Arrowhead was third at the state meet.
On Saturday, BBW posted a 141.225 team score, putting the team ahead of Frankego (138.325) and Arrowhead (125.525, short one score).
“That’s what we call an ugly win,” said coach Diane Biedrzycki. “It just didn’t feel right from the beginning.
“The meet as a whole was pretty rough.”
In spite of the rough day, BBW swept the top three spots on vault. Molly benavides won with a 9.4, followed by Robynanne Scheuerman (9.1) and Bailey Fitzpatrick (8.9).
Jenna Fitzpatrick won bars with a 9.45, followed by her sister, Bailey (9.05), while Bailey was third on floor (9.2).
Benavides ended up first in the all-around with a score of 36.125, followed by Bailey Fitzpatrick (36.05).
