The Burlington High School girls’ soccer team crept one game closer to a possible Southern Lakes Conference title with a 4-1 win over Westosha Central Tuesday at Paddock Lake.
All five goals in this game were scored in the second half.
The Demons first goal was scored by Maddy Harry with an assist from Emily Mundt.
Sydney McCourt got her eighth and ninth goals this season back-to-back, with Harry getting an assist on the first goal and Mundt on the second.
Mundt scored Burlington’s final goal unassisted.
With the win, the Demon girls are now 8-8-1 overall, and 5-1-0 in the SLC.
Menomonee Falls invite
“The Menomonee Falls invite was disappointing for us,” head coach Joel Molitor said.
The Demon girls opened this Saturday invite against Wisconsin Lutheran and the game ended on a 1-1 tie.
“We beat them on penalty kicks, 5-4,” Molitor said.
Burlington next took on Menomonee Falls, the team to beat in the tournament, and lost 1-0.
“We played them physically throughout the first half, which they were not expecting, and we carried a 0-0 tie deep into the second half,” Molitor said. “We gave up too many corner kicks, though, and they scored on one in the second half.”
The final game of the invite resulted in a 3-0 loss to Milton.
“We were tired, injured and discouraged, and we did not play to our ability,” Molitor said.
Vs. Elkhorn
On Thursday, the Demons defeated Elkhorn 3-1 in Southern Lakes Conference action.
“We jumped to an early 2-0 lead and dominated them with our physical play,” Molitor said. “We carried the lead into halftime, and added another goal before the end.”
McCourt got the first Burlington goal, with Lindsay Kraemer scoring the other two.
“Elkhorn scored in the second half, but they were never a threat to win the game,” Molitor said.
Schedule
On Thursday, Burlington will host Delavan-Darien in an SLC matchup.
Next week, the SLC Tournament will take place on Tuesday, May 22, and Thursday, May 24. The location had not been determined at press time.
