A 3-1 loss at Racine Case Tuesday kept the Burlington High School girls soccer team looking for its first win of the season.
With the loss, the Demons fell to 0-2-1 on the season.
Case played a very physical game in the first half and the result was a 2-0 halftime lead.
“Their through balls and slashing runs led to two goals,” Burlington head coach Joel Molitor said.
The second half was a different story, as Molitor indicated the Demon girls played much of the second half on the Case end of the field.
“We matched their physical play and had more possessions and better chances,” Molitor said.
A goal by Maddy Harry, with an assist to Emily Mundt, made it 2-1 in the 72nd minute of the second half. It was the team’s first goal this season.
“It was good to finally score a goal and break that drought,” Molitor said.
Case got its third goal, Molitor indicated, on a miscommunication between the Burlington goalkeeper and the defense.
Each team had six shots on goal in this game, but Case took better advantage it its opportunities.
The Demon girls began their season at home Thursday and battled Milwaukee King to a 0-0 tie.
Head coach Joel Molitor noted that Milwaukee King was coming off a big win earlier in the week.
“Our girls held them scoreless for 100 minutes (80 minutes of regular action and two 10-minute overtimes),” Molitor said. “The girls played a very solid defensive game.”
Molitor was especially impressed with the play of goalkeeper Tanya Schilling, who had eight saves.
“She has already made some big strides forward,” Molitor said.
Burlington had five shots on goal in this contest, with Maddy Harry getting three opportunities and Emily Mundt two.
On Saturday, the Demons hosted Muskego and lost a 1-0 game in a contest Molitor felt could easily have gone Burlington’s way.
“The girls outpassed and outdefended Muskego, but they converted their one chance early in the first half,” Molitor said. “We had several chances to score, with Katie Travis and Maddy Harry being in the right position, but were unable to finish.”
