A furious second-half rally wasn’t enough to lift the Burlington High School boys basketball team out of a huge rut Thursday against Mukwonago in the opening round of the WIAA Division 1 sectional play at Kenosha Tremper.
The Demons found themselves trailing 40-14 early in the second half before mounting a comeback. Sparked by strong play from Trent Taylor and Eric Gerber, Burlington clawed back into the contest. The Demons trailed by six with about two minutes left, but got no closer and Mukwonago was able to hold off the rally by sinking its late free throws.
The loss ended the season for the Southern Lakes Conference champs at 17-8.
