The Demons are owning the courts this season.
On Tuesday, the Burlington girls tennis visited Elkhorn and came away with an impressive 7-0 victory.
The win bumped the Demons’ record to 4-0 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Overall, Burlington is now 12-3 in dual meets.
Lacey Londre and Sophie Grandi each won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
At No. 3 singles, Coral Miller lost her first set, 4-6, but bounced back to win the next two, 6-3, 6-3.
Emily Crabtree won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
In doubles action, Lydia Crabtree and Hannah Cook (1 dubs) and Katie Daujotas and Whitney Miller (3 dubs) both won in two sets.
At No. 2 doubles, Amy Gilanyi and Alyssa Caliva won 6-1, 7-6 (3).
Fifth at G.B. Southwest
The Burlington High School is matching or exceeding last year’s performance through the same point in the season.
The caveat is the Demons are doing so with new doubles teams.
Those doubles teams struggled Sept. 6 at the Green Bay Southwest Invitational at Green Bay Southwest High School. The Demons’ singles teams picked up the slack.
“Our singles is the strength of the team this year, and they showed their strength by pulling us through,” Demons coach Rose Dolatowski said.
The Demons, who finished fifth in the team standings, dropped their first dual meet of the invitational 7- 0 to eventual invite winner Waunakee.
“Waunakee, they were tough,” Dolatowski said. “There was no doubt about it.”
Burlington rallied and won their next two dual meets. The Demons defeated Rhinelander 4-3 and Marshfield 4-3.
Burlington won all four singles matches and lost all three doubles matches in each dual meet. The Demons won all of their singles matches in straight sets after the loss to Waunakee.
“That’s kind of what we’ve been counting on this season – veteran players at singles,” Dolatowski said.
Playing at No. 2 doubles, Burlington’s Amy Gilanyi and Alyssa Caliva beat Rhinelander’s Erin Tenderholt and Maddie Barnes 7-5 in the first set before losing the second set 7-5. Gilanyi and Caliva lost the third set 10-2.
At No. 1 doubles the Demons’ Lydia Crabtree and Hannah Cook lost the first set 6-3 to Marshfield’s Jenny Madden and Martha Kupfer. Crabtree and Cook won the second set 7-6 before losing the third 10-4.
The Demons defeated Wilmot 7-0 Sept. 4 in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet at home. Burlington won in straight sets and improved to 3-0 in the SLC.
The Demons sported a 3-0 record last season through three dual meets and were also 11-3 overall last season through 14 dual meets. The Demons host Delavan-Darien in SLC action tonight.
Burlington plays Saturday at Muskego High School in the non-conference Warrior Quad.
