Right now, the Catholic Central softball team can do no wrong.
With tons of hits and stellar pitching from Mackenzie Kyle, the Lady Toppers are 7-2 overall and 6-0 in the Metro Classic Conference.
Can anyone stop these girls?
On Tuesday, the ladies put together a hitting clinic, raking 19 hits and 13 runs in a 13-0 pulverizing of host Greendale Martin Luther.
Kyle allowed only three hits and struck out five in a complete-game shutout. It was business as usual for the senior.
Catholic Central started slowly, scoring two runs in the fourth inning on back-to-back doubles by Kyle and Sydney Robson, followed by an RBI single from Tori Kempken.
CC scored again in the sixth inning when Kyle and Robson again doubled and were driven in by Bridgette Wright’s single.
Olivia Sobbe followed with a two-run double to right field. The Lady Toppers exploded in the seventh with eight straight hits and eight runs to put things out of reach.
Robson led all Toppers, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs.
Kyle went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Junior Kacie Snyder, Junior Katie Kubiak, Junior Bridgette Wright, Senior Tori Kempken, and Junior Olivia Sobbe all had multiple hits for the Toppers.
“Kyle had good control of the entire game on the mound shutting out Martin Luther,” said CC coach Bill Greskiw. “We followed a pattern that we’ve had all year, taking our sweet time getting on the board with runs. Once we starting hitting we really can score in a hurry. I can’t remember a game with as many rocket shots as this game.”
The Toppers will look to stay perfect in the MCC when they travel to Kenosha St. Joe’s Thursday.
Burlington soccer wins again
The Burlington girls soccer squad improved to 4-2 overall with an impressive 1-0 victory at Janesville Craig Tuesday night.
Morgan McCourt scored the game’s lone goal in the 35th minute.
In goal, the Demons got three saves from soccer newcomer Ellen Stang and two from Kaitlyn Bonton.
“This was not a pretty win, but it was a good win,” said coach Joel Molitor. “We need to improve in several areas, but I was proud of our mental strength.”
Molitor also commended the play of Danielle Prailes, Julia Barrios and Gabby Pauly.
“They took advantage of their minutes and made the most of their opportunity,” Molitor said of the trio.

The Catholic Central High School boys golf team finished fifth April 21 in the Pacer Challenge at Brighton Dale Golf Links in Kansasville.
