Two Burlington High School class of 2013 graduates had big days for their respective college football teams Saturday.

Ty Dennis (pictured above), a wide receiver for the 2012 Burlington Demons, broke out with a career game in Division 2 Minnesota State-Mankato’s 35-27 victory over Augustana.

Dennis caught six passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt sophomore leads the Mavericks, ranked No. 1 in America in D2 (6-0) in catches (17), yards (429) and TDs (five).

Jayden Essman, Dennis’ quarterback for the Demons, helped UW-Oshkosh make history. The Titans knocked off D3’s top-ranked UW-Whitewater, the two-time defending national champ, 10-7, to snap the Warhawks’ college football-best 36-game win streak.

Essman, the third-string quarterback, engineered the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter after two UWO QBs went down. Essman sprinted for a pivotal 26-yard gain to set up the winning field goal and finished 11-for-18 with 73 yards in his first considerable collegiate action.
