Burlington baseball enjoys 25-0 victory, softball team 6-2

Burlington improves to 7-2, one game behind rival Waterford

Twenty-five runs. Nineteen hits. Twenty-four RBIs.

Tuesday night at Ginger Beaumont Field in Burlington was one of those nights where everything worked for one team, and nothing worked for the other team.

The Demons enjoyed a 10-run second and nine-run third inning, and Aaron Mutter and Bryan Sturdevant combined for 14 RBIs in a 25-0 lambasting of visiting Lake Geneva Badger.

Burlington improved to 7-2 and 5-1 in the Southern Lakes Conference, where they sit 1.5 games behind 7-0 Waterford.

Houston Cowan picked up his first victory of season on the mound, going three innings with two hits and a strikeout.

Derek Koenen and Dale Damon joined Cowan to fire a combined four-hitter in five innings.

At the plate, 11 Demons scored a run and nine players recorded a hit.

Mutter and Sturdevant each went 4-for-5, with Mutter creaming a home run and tallying eight RBIs while Sturdevant tripled with six RBIs.

Mutter added three doubles for a slugging percentage of 2.00.

Sturdevant and leadoff hitter Zach Campbell each scored four times. Campbell added two hits and walked three times.

Tanner Strommen added a 3-for-3 night with three runs and three RBIs.

Cal Tully went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Koenen, Aaron Sturdevant, Grant Tully and Damon each added a hit.

Burlington travels to Badger Thursday night.

 

Burlington 3, Delavan-Darien 1

The Demon bats were quelled April 21 by Delavan sophomore pitcher Noal Brouwer, but Burlington ace Jacob Lindemann picked up his teammates.

The power arm struck out 10 and scattered three hits in a complete game victory, with the only run coming off an error.

Lindemann improved to 4-0 on the season and hasn’t been touched this spring.

Burlington tallied single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Mutter and Aaron Sturdevant each collected two hits, while Mutter, Damon and Bryan Sturdevant drove in runs.

Campbell and Cal Tully each recorded hits.

 

Burlington softball 11, Waterford 4

The Lady Demons improved to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the loaded Southern Lakes Conference after dispatching rival Waterford.

The host Wolverines jumped out to a 4-2 first-inning lead, but Burlington answered with three-run totals in the second, fourth and seventh innings.

Jaina Westphal led the attack with three hits, a home run and three RBIs.

Josie Klein, who picked up the victory on the mound, added two hits.

Tay Lewis was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Lady Demons play Wednesday at Delavan-Darien (13-1), the No. 2-ranked team in the state in Division 2. Then, Burlington travels to Division 1 second-ranked Westosha Central Friday.

Westosha Central 12, Burlington 2

The defending state champs came to Burlington High School Saturday morning and pumped out 11 hits in a dominant performance.

The Falcons led 6-0 after two innings and cruised.

Chy Onstad, who played for Burlington in 2014, led the Falcons with three hits, a home run and two RBI.

Onstad leads the conference with six home runs.

Westosha also got a home run from University of Wisconsin recruit Kayla Konwent.

Kira Allen led Burlington with two hits, and Gabby Hein added a home run.

 

Burlington 14, Lake Geneva Badger 4

On April 21 in Burlington, Lewis smashed two home runs, and Westphal added a circuit clout and four RBIs as the Demons rolled after a seven-run first inning.

Klein struck out two and walked two in a complete game victory.

At the plate, Klein was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
