The Burlington Co-op girls high school swimming team put forth a strong showing Aug 25 in the Southern Lakes Conference Relays at Whitewater High School.
BC finished second in the eight-team meet with a total of 421 points. Badger Co-op won the meet with 478 points.
“It was a great surprise,” coach Denita Jones said of BC’s finish at the SLC Re-lays. “The freshmen really stepped up and had a great meet.”
BC won two events at the SLC Relays. The Demons won the 1,000-yard freestyle crescendo relay and the 400 backstroke relay.
Elise Piper, Madison Traughber, Jenna Hotvedt and Morgan Traughber won the 400 backstroke relay in 4 minutes, 17.96 seconds. Hot-vedt, the Traughbers and Olivia Piccione won the 1,000 freestyle crescendo relay in 11:08.81.
Swimmers earned medals through third place.
Maddi Haas, Emma Lan-gley and the Traughbers fin-ished second in the 400 indi-vidual medley relay (4:32.82) and the Traughbers, Hotvedt and Piccione finished second in the 500 crescendo relay (5:11.78).
Langley, Piper, Libby Slauson and Piccione fin-ished third in the 400 free-style relay (4:05.47 and Hot-vedt, Haas, Piper and Pic-cione finished third in the 200 medley relay (2:03.16).
Girls 5th in Shorewood
The Burlington Co-op finished in the top five Sept. 3 in a stacked field at the Shorewood Invite at Shorewood High School.
The Demons finished fifth with a team total of 184 points.
BC competed Thursday in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet at Edgerton High School. The Demons swim Sept. 13 in a SLC dual meet at Elkhorn against the Elks and Platteville/Lancaster.
Morgan Traughber finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke in 1 minute, 2.02 seconds for the Demons’ highest finish in an individual event. She also finished sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:04.51).
