May Jagodzinski (No. 2 singles) and Grace Boyle and Whitney Miller (No. 3 doubles) finished unbeaten in Southern Lakes Conference play as the Burlington tennis team closed out the league portion of its schedule with a 5-2 victory at Elkhorn on Monday.
The Demons finished 4-3 in the SLC and improved to 4-7 overall.
Jagodzinski defeated Kendall Birbaum, 6-1, 6-1, while Boyle and Miller blanked Tristan Nichols and Madison Page, 6-0, 6-0. Jagodzinski went 7-0 in the SLC and Boyle and Miller went 5-0.
Lacey Londre (No. 1 singles), Alyssa Caliva and Kate Daujotas (No. 1 doubles) and Adrianna Castillo and Josie Klein (No. 2 doubles) also posted straight-set victories.
In a 6-1 loss to visiting Lake Geneva Badger on Thursday, Sept. 15, Burlington lost in straight sets in six of seven matches.
Prior to the start of the season, Burlington coach Rose Dolatowski tabbed Badger as the favorite in the SLC and the Badgers ended up finishing 7-0.
Jagodzinski cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Annabelle Alberta at No. 2 singles to lead the Demons.
Burlington is hosting the SLC Tournament on Thursday and Saturday (rain date Friday). Play begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Short-handed runners compete at Parkside
Competing without top runners Ashlyn Barry and Jessa Burling, the Burlington girls cross country team took a hit in the final standings in the 34-team Angel Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17 at UW-Parkside.
The Demons placed 21st with 570 points, while the Burlington boys team finished 26th with 710 points.
Paced by overall winner Meghan Scott (19:13.1), Divine Savior Holy Angels had three finishers in the top five and beat out Brookfield Central for the girls title, 60-81. Kenosha Bradford won the boys meet with 102 points and Milwaukee King was a distant second with 161.
Jackie Garwood crossed 104th out of 192 runners in 23:31.0 to lead the Demons.
Others contributing to the Burlington team score were Shauna Drew (110th, 23:48.4), Kelsey Gelden (124th, 24:18.0), Catie Arena (127th, 24:20.6) and Meghan Harris (143rd, 24:54.0).
Declan Kipp crossed 115th out of 208 runners in 19:11.8 to lead the Burlington boys. Onalaska Luther sophomore David Vannucchi was the overall winner in 16:09.4.
Others contributing to the Burlington team score were Coi Hansen (141st, 19:36.9), Dakota Taylor (148th, 19:45.2), Joel Fisher (150th, 19:50.8) and Sean Safar (161st, 20:04.9).
The Catholic Central girls ended up 28th with 782 points, while the boys team had an incomplete score with only four runners.
Running for the Hilltopper girls were Kelly Aldrich (152nd, 25:29.7), Brooke Bleser (155th, 25:42.6), Ellie Nevin (173rd, 26:55.5), Bridget Bittman (174th, 27:00.1) and Emma Klein (181st, 28:08.2).
The boys finishers were John Pum (109th, 19:02.5), Gregory Sember (186th, 20:55.6), Josh Muellenbach (190th, 21:16.3) and Conall Lynch (194th, 21:31.1).
Burlington swimming 135, Delavan-Darien 35
The Burlington Co-op swim team made easy work of the Comets Tuesday night at the Aurora Wellness Center in Burlington.
Morgan Traugher (200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Madison Traugher (50 free, 100 butterfly), Jenna Hotvedt (200 IM, 500 free) and Elise Piper (100 free, 100 backstroke) were multiple winners for the Demons.
Hotvedt sang the National Anthem before the dual meet.
The 200 medley relay team of Morgan Traughber, Sam Reesman, Piper and Hotvedt won in a time of 2:05.70.
Burlington’s 200 freestyle relay team of Maddi Haas, Vicki Heusdens, Libby Slauson and Morgan Traugher took first in 1:56.51.
Finally, Burlington also won the 400 freestyle relay, with Hotvedt, Gianna Vondra, Slauson and Madison Traughber finishing in 4:12.46.
Girls golf sixth at SLC meet
The Burlington girls golf team shot a 432, good for sixth of seven teams at the Southern Lakes Conference meet Tuesday at Rivermoor Golf Course.
The Demons’ No. 1 golfer, Kya Kafar, paced the squad with a 104 in 18 holes.
Lilly Capozzi added a 105.
RaeLee Koehnke carded a 107, and Taylor Myszkewicz tallied a 116 to round out the scoring.
Saige Heelein’s 127 was dropped.
Burlington’s postseason will begin at the Catholic Memorial Regional Wednesday, Sept. 28.
