Megan Wallace, Emily Ustianowski, Lucas Zasada, and Leah Joslyn all had first place finishes for Burlington track and field this past week as the team participated in the Racine County Invite April 27.

The girls team finished fourth with 78 points, while the boys team finished fifth with 68.5 points.

“Overall, I’m pretty impressed,” head coach Jason Bousman said. “The competition in our county is extremely high, Horlick and Case are some are the most competitive programs.”

Bousman always looks forward to competing against them, and thought his program did really well.

Megan Wallace had the first place finish in the long jump with a finish of 16-02. Grace Peyron finished ninth in the same event with a finish of 14-01.

“It was cold for all the athletes on Thursday,” Bousman said. “As a senior, she had high marks in the long jump and led the 800-meter relay.”

Emily Ustianowski took first in the pole vault with a finish of 9-0. Fellow senior Sydney Filer finished second in the same event with a finish of 7-06.

Bousman said he likes seeing the senior leadership of Ustianowski and Wallace.

Sophomore Lucas Zasada had the top finish for the boys team with a first place in the triple jump. Zasada finished with a finish of 37-0.

Leah Joslyn, the team’s wheelchair participant, placed first in the 100-meter, 400-meter, and the shot put. Joselyn had a 2:23.35 finish in the 400-meter, finished the 100-meter with a time of 34.28 and had a shot put finish of 9-05.5.

Among the other top finishes on the girls side were Peyron’s fifth place finish of 4-02 in the high jump. Sophomore Emma Langley finished third in the discus, while senior Evelyn Sibley finished fifth in the same event.

The 800-meter relay team of Wallace, Peyron, Mattie Stutzman, and Molly Fox finished second with a time of 1:53.36. The 1600-meter relay team of Wallace, Peyron, Fox, and Anya Kolano also finished second with a time of 4:28.13.
