Senior Megan Wallace made history Tuesday night at the Southern Lakes Conference track meet, breaking the school record in the long jump.

Burlington High School hosted the event, which saw Wallace and fellow senior Leah Joslyn earn conference championships.

Wallace finished with a jump of 17-11, which is seven inches further than her previous best.

“I knew I really wanted to beat the school record,” Wallace said. “I just worked really hard in practice every day and each week, and today I just hit the board right and it felt really good.”

“I’ve worked with her for four years and we have had moments throughout our team meetings where I’ll point out the fact a lot of our young kids look to have that instant success,” head coach Jason Bousman said.Leah Joslyn won conference championships in the wheelchair shot put, 800 meter run, and the 100 meter dash. The senior had a finish of 9-07.75 in the shot put, while having a 4:03.37 finish in the 800 meter run and a time of 30.44 in the 100 meter dash.

“She works so hard,” Bousman said of the future Penn State University walk-on. “She is the epitome of overcoming things, and her attitude just has been so positive and her mindset is so strong.”
