Seniors Emily Ustianowski, Leah Joslyn and Josh Insor helped pace the Burlington Demons track and field team at regionals on Monday in Lake Geneva as the Demons will send six to the sectional meet.
Ustianowski and Joslyn finished first, while Insor finished second in the 100 meter dash.
“I am very proud of our athletes and coaching staff,” head coach Jason Bousman said. “Both have worked extremely hard this season to make the differences that are needed to turn this program around.”
Ustianowski finished first in the pole vault with a throw of 10-0. Sydney Filer also finished ninth in the same event with an 8-0.
“Emily has come on strong later in the season,” Bousman said. “Like all our athletes, you hope things will start clicking and they have for her.”
Joslyn finished with a 31.83 time in the 100-meter dash and a 2:15.25 in the 400 meter dash. Joslyn also finished with a time of 4:23.96 in the 800 meter dash, and had a throw of 9-09 in the shot put.
“Leah is a very determined young lady this season, looking to compete for her fourth state appearance at the WIAA state meet in La Crosse,” Bousman said. “She is looking to defend her title in all four events this year.”
Senior Megan Wallace finished third in the 100 meter run with a time of 12.84. Wallace finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 17-3.5.
“Megan has worked extremely hard this year toward her goals,” Bousman said. “She has been a staple for our young sprinters as she continues to lead our female athletes, we are very proud of her.”
Grace Peyron finished third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.03. Peyron finished eighth in the long jump with a jump of 15-10.
In the shot put, Paige Taylor and Jaclyn Garwood took fifth and sixth, respectively. Taylor finished with a throw of 32-0, while Garwood’s throw was 31-11.
In the discus, Emma Langley and Evelyn Sibley also finished fifth and sixth. Langley finished with a throw of 100-10, while Sibley tossed a throw of 94-07.
Senior Josh Insor finished second with a time of 11.32 in the 100 meter. Jack Hartzell finished third in the 200 meter with a time of 23.63, while Insor finished fifth with a time of 24.14 in the same event.
“Josh has been the anchor this year, he has grown into a great leader for our team,” Bousman said. “His approach this season has been such a positive one, and he is now in position where he controls his future.”
Kyle Derosier finished fifth in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:25.26. Dakota Taylor finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:04.89.
Max Proctor placed sixth in the discus with a hurl of 126-05.
