TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Burlington baseball wins 12th straight, McCourt stars with 6 goals

The Burlington baseball squad, ranked No. 7 in the state in Division 1, kept things rolling Tuesday night and gained a game of cushion in the Southern Lakes Conference standings.

Behind a complete game three-hitter from Zach Campbell (3-0), the Demons beat visiting Elkhorn 4-0 and improved to 13-1 overall and 9-1 in the SLC.

It was the 12th straight win for Burlington, which is now three games in the loss column ahead of second-place Wilmot and Waterford (6-4) and third-place Elkhorn (5-4).

Jacob Lindemann went 3-for-3 with an RBI single, and Aaron Sturdevant and Sean Safar added RBIs.

Dale Damon and Campbell each added hits.

The Demons scored two runs in the third to go up 3-0 and cruised to victory.

Burlington travels to Elkhorn Thursday before facing Division 2’s No. 5-ranked Jefferson Friday.

On Saturday, Burlington goes to Janesville Craig to battle Division 1’s top-ranked Cougars.

 

Burlington soccer 10, Wilmot 0

On Tuesday in Burlington, Morgan McCourt scored six goals in a Southern Lakes Conference rout.

McCourt tallied five goals in the first half, including three in the final five minutes.

Ashlyn Barry added two goals, and Sarah Zimmerman and Hannah Anderson each added a goal.

Anderson and McCourt each added two assists.

Barry, Adrianna White and Diana Estrada each added assists.

Burlington improved to 7-1-1 on the season.

Burlington travels to Union Grove Thursday.

Elkhorn softball 5, Burlington 0

Izzy Regner allowed only four hits and struck out six Tuesday night in Burlington as the Lady Elks won their ninth straight game.

Alexis Lois, Gracie Peterson, Ashley Schmalfeldt and Halie Behnke notched the hits for the Demons, who dropped to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in the SLC.

Elkhorn improved to 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the SLC, where it sits in third place behind Westosha (12-0) and Wilmot (9-2).

Burlington hosts Badger Thursday.

 

Catholic Central softball 12, Martin Luther 0

On Tuesday in Greendale, Sydney Robson did it all for the Toppers.

She pitched six shutout innings, hit a home run and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Catholic Central to a Metro Classic Conference victory.

The Toppers scored two runs in the first and three in the second before pouring it on with four in the fifth and three in the sixth to run-rule Martin Luther.

Christina Paleka hit a triple, and Anne Fabiani went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Catholic Central improved to 7-5 overall and 6-1 in the MCC, 1.5 games behind first-place Shoreland Lutheran.

The Toppers battle Shoreland Lutheran Wednesday.

Racine Lutheran/Prairie baseball 10, Catholic Central 2

With Tuesday’s loss at home, the Toppers fell to 8-6 overall and 7-4 in the MCC.

Lutheran improved to 8-0 and remained atop the MCC standings.

The Toppers will get a chance at revenge at Lutheran Thursday.
