The Catholic Central High School boys’ basketball team returned home Tuesday night and picked up its first win of the season, beating Lake Country Lutheran 56-43.
“We played our best ball of the season so far over the first three and a half quarters of the game,” said CCHS coach Eric Henderson. “We kind of lost our composure over the last four minutes, but it was a good home opener.”
Henderson used a 10-man rotation during the game and was pleased with the contributions of a couple of guys getting their first opportunities in the young season.
“Nothing pleases you more as a coach than seeing a youngster’s hard work get rewarded,” Henderson said. “I don’t think anyone worked any harder during the offseason than Keith Nielsen and (Tuesday) he had a real nice game for us.”
Nielsen, a 6-3 senior forward, started his first varsity game and responded with 15 points – including a long 3-pointer from the corner and a 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line.
Henderson also pointed out the play of senior guard Jeremy Lemke, who came off the bench in the first quarter for his first varsity action.
“Jeremy did a real solid job for us tonight,” Henderson said. “He got us under control early in the game and with some good decision making, got us on track.”
CCHS dropped its Midwest Classic Conference opener Friday to Racine Prairie 49-40 in Racine.
