Just how good the Catholic Central volleyball team is – and whether it can translate into a trip to the WIAA Division 4 state tournament or more – remains to be seen.
But the Lady ’Toppers left no doubt that they were the No. 1 seed in their regional for a reason last week.
After beating up Black Hawk 25-9, 25-10, 25-17, Catholic Central then swept Monticello at home in the regional finals Saturday, 25-17, 25-17, 25-9.
CCHS will play Central Wisconsin Christian Thursday at Williams Bay at 7 p.m. in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal.
The Lady ’Toppers were well in control against Black Hawk before errors began plaguing both teams in the third game. CCHS fell behind early but rallied for the sweep.
Against Monticello, Catholic Central got a balanced offensive attack, with four players picking up at least four kills. Megan Wadsworth led with 12 kills, while Maggie Smith added nine, Amanda Koenen six and Britte Schneider four.
