The Catholic Central High School boys’ basketball played a pair of games in two days last week, beating Kenosha Reuther Friday 63-52 before losing in double overtime to Kenosha Christian Life Saturday.
Both were home games for the Hilltoppers, with CCHS picking up a non-conference win but also a Midwest Classic Conference loss.
In the victory, the Hilltoppers broke away in the second half, outscoring the visiting Bulldogs 38-24 en route to the come-from-behind victory.
“We came out a little sluggish but our strong third quarter really helped stretch the lead,” said CCHS coach Eric Henderson. “It was a great team effort.”
Leading 42-37, the Hilltoppers extended the lead to 10 in the opening minute and a half of the fourth, and then held on down the stretch. Colin Foote led CCHS with 17 points, while Abel Wagner added 13 and Tegan Miles 11.
On Saturday against Christian Life, the Hilltoppers had a disastrous first half before rallying to force the game to double overtime.
Wagner hit a three-pointer from deep on the wing to even the score at the end of regulation, and the two teams battled evenly in the first overtime.
In the second overtime, KCL got an early three-point led. Wagner’s jump shot cut it to one, but Christian Life followed with two more scores to stretch the lead to five.
Wilker drained a shot from beyond the arc for CCHS, and Wagner split a pair of free throws with 23 seconds left to cut the lead to one. But KCL’s Daniel Rozema hit both free throws with 19 seconds to go to account for the final margin.
