The Catholic Central High School girls’ basketball team traveled to Kenosha Christian Life Friday, dropping a 68-59 contest to the hot-shooting Eagles.
“We knew they could score,” said CCHS coach Jeff Behrens. “But they were lights out.”
KCL took the opening tipoff and posted a 17-point first quarter. CCHS eventually pulled even at 32 apiece at the half.
The Lady ’Topper defense struggled in the second half, as Christian Life posted 19 points in the third quarter and grabbed a six-point lead.
The defensive woes continued in the final frame despite not allowing a field goal. KCL took full advantage of its opportunities and converted 17 free throws to turn back the Lady ’Toppers.
KCL had a huge advantage at the free-throw line, converting 27 of 33 opportunities, while CCHS was just 16 of 25 from the line.
Allie Hocking led the Lady ’Toppers with 18 points, but was held scoreless in the final quarter. Allie Wiemer added nine for Catholic Central.
Brie Tennyson led all scorers with 28 points for Kenosha Christian Life. Haley Johnson added 18 points and Anna Tajnai 12.
On Tuesday night, Heritage Christian lived up to its advance billing, crushing the visiting Lady ’Toppers 88-49.
The Lady Patriots used a stifling full-court press that forced turnovers en route to a 17-8 first quarter advantage and built from there. Heritage added 25 points in the second, 17 in the third and a whopping 29 in the fourth.
