Catholic Central pitcher Mackenzie Kyle had a game to remember Wednesday in a WIAA Division 4 regional semifinal in Burlington.
Kyle fired a no-hitter against visiting Lake Country Lutheran, striking out nine and walking none. The hurler was a Lady Toppers error away from a perfect game.
Not only was Kyle stellar on the rubber, her two-run triple in the sixth inning sealed Central’s 3-0 victory.
Kyle was 3-for-4 at the plate with the two RBIs.
Catholic Central (12-12) now travels to top-seeded Johnson Creek Thursday at 5 p.m. in the regional championship. Creek downed Williams Bay, 10-0, in its regional semifinal Tuesday.
Lutheran, which won the Midwest Classic Conference with a 6-0 record, fell victim to the Toppers in all three meetings this season.
Not only did Kyle dazzle on the mound, the Topper bats came alive with 10 hits.
Bridgette Wright led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double. She put the Toppers up 1-0 in the first inning after leading off with a single, stealing second and scoring on a hit by Natalie Rach.
Lutheran’s only real threat came in the sixth when it put two runners on base with two outs. But Kyle slammed the door and got out of it.
Taylor Rieck, Tori Kempken and Haile Weis each added a hit for the Toppers.
