Union Grove High School junior Paige Murdoch fell short of her bid to compete in the WIAA Division 1 state golf tournament, carding an 89 Tuesday in sectional action at Bristol Oaks Country Club in Bristol.

The top two teams, and top three individuals from non-qualifying teams, in each sectional qualify for the state tournament.

Murdoch’s 89 was seven shots higher than she needed to shoot to qualify for the state tournament.

Murdoch had advanced to Sectional following a solid 98 at the Ives Grove Golf Links Sept. 28 in the WIAA Division 1 regional.

Murdoch had the lowest score among golfers not on qualifying teams.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on qualifying teams advanced to sectional play.

As a team, Union Grove failed to qualify for sectional, finishing seventh among the eight teams with a 453. Kenosha Tremper (362), Franklin (404), Kenosha Bradford (411) and Muskego (433) were the teams that qualified.

Murdoch carded a 51 on the front nine and a 47 on the back.

Tremper’s Jaime Elsen was medalist with an 84.

Jorey Staven was the second best Bronco on this day, firing a 113 (59-54). She was followed by Rachel Pena with a 118 (58-60) and Amy Kozenski with a 124 (60-64).

The final Bronco who competed was Emily Garbie with a 146 (71-75).
