When the season began, Union Grove High School head boys’ soccer coach Gregg Anderle knew he had a very young team, but was hopeful that as the season progressed they would develop into a solid team.
After finishing the season without a single win, Anderle now is hopeful that the foundations that were laid this fall will help the team next year.
The Bronco boys saw their season come to an end with a 6-0 loss to Shoreland Lutheran Oct. 5, and a 10-0 loss to Kenosha Tremper in regional action Tuesday. With the losses, the team finished 0-22 this fall.
Against Shoreland Lutheran, the Broncos gave up three goals in the first five-plus minutes of the game.
“Then we settled down,” Anderle said. “For about 20-25 minutes we outplayed them, but weren’t able to convert.”
Shoreland Lutheran led 4-0 at the half and added two more goals in the second half.
In the WIAA Division 1 regional game, the No. 16-seeded Broncos faced No. 1 seeded Kenosha Tremper.
“We were overmatched,” Anderle admitted. “Our guys fought hard.”
Tremper led 9-0 at the half and added a 10th goal in the second half. The game was halted after 60 minutes.
