Union Grove senior quarterback Matt Nelson is already proving why he is a candidate for Southern Lakes Conference player of the year.
Nelson fired four touchdown passes in the first 13 minutes of the Broncos’ opening game, en route to a dominating 57-6 victory over Milwaukee Madison Friday Aug. 19.
Jacob Ross nabbed two Nelson touchdowns of 8 and 7 yards, respectively, while Jack Pettit, and Holden Whybark connected on the other scores. Keith Storm-Voltz also chipped in another 25-yard touchdown run to round out the onslaught.
While the offense did plenty of damage, the Grove defense added four scores to the cause.
Jack Clark got the defense rolling in the first quarter with an 18-yard touchdown interception return to make it 14-0. The Broncos later collected two first half safeties to help build the lead to 44-6 early in the second quarter.
Nick Ditscheit then delivered the final score of the night for Union Grove when he scooped up a fumble and scampered 23 yards for a touchdown to make it 57-6 in the second quarter.
Union Grove looks to keep the onslaught going tonight when it hosts Wauwatosa East.
East is looking for its first win of the season after falling 35-6 to rival Wauwatosa West.
