Moore, Trudeau dominant on mound, power hitters carry offense

As the new WBCA No. 1-ranked team in the state, Union Grove made sure it lived up to its ranking last week.
In three Southern Lakes Conference games, the Broncos outscored their opponents 42-2, including a jaw-dropping 25-0 victory over Lake Geneva Badger Monday, April 25.
The Broncos also thumped Elkhorn 11-0 April 21 after knocking off a much-improved Wilmot squad 6-2 last April 19.
The dominant Bronco offense socked five home runs in five innings at Badger. Alyssa McClelland had two of the homers while Brooklyn Ottelien, Claire Ryan, and Allie Trudeau each added a home run.
Ottelien also belted a homer against the visiting Elks last week. Kalista Hribar also drilled one over the fence at Union Grove to make things easier for Brittany Moore on the mound. The senior hurler pitched five hitless innings to earn the victory.
Moore and McClelland each socked home runs at Wilmot en route to a clutch 6-2 victory over the Panthers. Ryan also drove in a run for the Broncos in support of Trudeau, who earned the victory on the mound for Union Grove.
The Broncos look to continue their dominance today when they host Delavan-Darien.
Baseball boys sweep Badger
After limping out to a 1-5 record this season, the Union Grove baseball team put to-gether its first winning week of the season at the expense of Southern Lakes Con-ference foe Lake Geneva Badger.
Union Grove (3-6, 3-2) grabbed a pair of one-run victories over Badger on April 19 and April 21 and propped its way into third place in the Lakes. The clutch victories over-shadowed a 9-2 loss to a tough Kenosha Indian Trail team on April 20.
The Broncos jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and held on from there to finish off host Lake Geneva Badger last Thursday.
Bradley Hansen, Evan Storm-Voltz, Peter Rossman, and Ryan Miller each drove in runs in the frame, while Miller pitched a complete game to earn the victory.
Miller spread out three runs on 10 hits and nine strikeouts to get the win.
The narrow victory came after a 9-2 loss to Indian Trails last Wednesday.
After jumping out to a 2-1 victory in the second inning, the Broncos surrendered a game-changing, six-run fourth inning that proved to the difference in the game.
Joey Nilo-Lofton led the Union Grove offense with a double and two RBIs.
The Bronco pitching staff fared much better in its 2-1 home victory over Badger last Tuesday.
Michael Tuttle fired a complete game gem, allowing just one unearned run and four hits to earn the victory.
Miller drove in a pair of runs to lead the offensive attack.
The Broncos look to continue their resurgence next week when it hosts Saint Francis on Monday before traveling to Burlington to battle the Demons.
