Union Grove may have won last Tuesday’s Southern Lakes Conference golf meet, but Waterford made a little history of its own.

Despite a second-place finish at Rivermoor Golf Course, the Wolverines and Broncos tied in the final SLC standings, as Waterford won the regular season title and the Grove won the tournament.

It’s Waterford’s first conference championship in girls golf in 36 years, as the last one came in 1980.

Union Grove defended its conference crown.

Taitum Beck had the lowest round with an 83, followed by Sarah Schuster’s 85.

Waterford’s Lauren Torhorst and Grove’s Jackie Bianchi tied for third with a 90.

Aubrie Torhorst shot a 99, and Maddy Anderson added a 101.

Waterford opens WIAA Division 1 postseason play Sept. 28 with a regional tournament at Broadlands Golf Club in North Prairie.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not part of one of the top four teams advance from the regional to the sectional tournament.

Lady Wolverines regular season 6-0

Lauren Torhorst and Taitum Beck embraced on the edge of the ninth green at Rivermoor Golf Club Sept. 13 at the end of Waterford’s Southern Lakes Conference dual meet against Wilmot.

Coach Robb Shales said it was the last dual meet of their high school golf careers, and the two stopped and shared a moment.

The Wolverines beat the Panthers 191-197 and finished the season undefeated (6-0) in conference dual meets.

Waterford followed the victory against Wilmot with a title in the Panther Invite Sept. 15 at Twin Lakes Country Club.

Shales said Waterford has posted high scores as of late, and said he hoped the team would snap out of it by the SLC Tournament.

“We played our highest total of the season, so we didn’t have our best stuff,” Shales said of the dual meet against Wilmot. “We have been in a rut as a team lately, but our seniors shouldered the load to lead us to the win.”

Against Wilmot, Beck led the Wolverines with a 39 and Lauren Torhorst added a 42. Aubrie Torhorst shot a 52 and Anderson finished at 58. Jenna Ritzman carded a 62.

McKenna Stanek led Wilmot with a 46.

Sisters Aubrie and Lauren Torhorst won individual medalist honors (35) and combined with Beck and Anderson (38) to finish at 73 and win the team title at the Panthers Invitational.

“We mixed up the pairings a bit, putting the Torhorst sisters together and it worked great,” Shales said. “The event was a ton of fun. I’m glad we were able to pull off a win in one of the most relaxed events of the season.”

Participants played the Panther Invite as a two-person scramble with four golfers from each team. Team scores were tallied by adding the scores of the two teams.
