UNION GROVE – The new weight room is ready to go for student-athletes and community members at Union Grove High School.

Cody Clapper, a 2012 Bronco alum, is the new strength and conditioning coordinator, and he says it is three times larger than the old weight room.

“It’s brand new equipment across the board. We’re really trying to take our athletics to the next level,” Clapper said.

Clapper is a UW-Whitewater graduate, and he’s worked with the Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Clapper was working with the Junior Olympics in Colorado when UGHS Athletic Director Dave Pettit, one of his high school teachers, reached out about the job.

“It was time to come home,” Clapper said. “My friends and family mean the world to me.”

Clapper encourages the community to get in shape. “The initial goal is to get in better shape. Long-term, we want athletic success. We want to win conference championships and state championships. We’re very serious about the program, and we’re ready to go. I think the school and the community have been extremely supportive.”
