Against some stiff competition, the Waterford High School track and field squads found the going tougher Friday at the Cougar Relays held at Janesville Craig.
The result was a fourth-place finish for the girls squad and a fifth-place finish for the boys.
The Wolverine girls tallied 95 points. Sun Prairie won the girls side with 124 points. Janesville Craig was second (114) and Middleton third (107).
Nikki Grant was the only Wolverine on either squad to win her event, tying for first in the pole vault relay. The other two Wolverine pole vaulters were fifth and 16th.
Placing second for the Wolverine girls were the 800 sprint medley, the 1,600 sprint medley, the 4-by-400 relay, and the high jump relay team.
Individual Wolverine girls who did well were Jenny Gilbreath (second, long jump), Valerie Knurr (third, long jump), Abbie Felton (third, high jump), Hannah Jost (fourth, 3,200) and Holly Neubauer (fifth, high jump).
The Wolverine boys won the 800 sprint medley, and finished second in the 3×110 shuttle hurdles, and the distance medley.
Individual boys who did well were Grant Brooks (second, 3,200), T.J. Toy (second, 300 hurdles; fifth, high jump), Ben Pollock (third, pole vault), Brandon Miller (fourth, shot put; fifth, discus) and Dylan Dessart (fifth, long jump).
The Wolverines hosted their own invitational on Tuesday. Results were not available before press deadline.
Today, both squads are scheduled to participate in the New Berlin West Invitational.
Next week, they will compete in the Wauwatosa East Invitational on Tuesday, May 8, at Hart Park.
