The Waterford High School wrestling squad took sixth out of 16 teams at the Terry Kramer Open held at Fort Atkinson Saturday.
The Wolverines tallied 232 points in the event won by Fort Atkinson with 361 points.
In addition to the sixth-place finish, Waterford had three wrestlers win their weight classes.
Kody Azarian took the top spot at 126 pounds. Max Fisher won the 145-pound category, and Cody Nannemann the 152 pound.
After a first-round bye, Azarian scored victories by technical fall, pin, decision and major decision.
In the finals, he defeated Dalton Schuerman of Fort Atkinson in an 8-0 major decision.
Azarian now stands at 31-3 on the year.
Fisher also had a first-round bye, and then proceeded to pin three of his four opponents.
The closest match for Fischer, who is 30-5, came in the semifinals when he earned a 6-2 decision over Watertown’s Lucas Angell.
Nannemann did not have a first-round bye, but won two matches by pin, one by major decision, and two by decision.
In the semifinals, he defeated Tucker Hammer of Cedarbug 3-0, and in the finals he edged Keegan Foerster of Fort Atkinson 3-1.
Justin Ratkovec went 4-1 on the day, finishing second at 106 pounds. He lost only to Ethan Averill of Kettle Moraine by a 2-0 decision in the finals. Averill is ranked No. 11 in the state, and Ratkovec No. 13.
Nick Mastrocola was fifth at 195 pounds, going 3-2 on the day.
Liam Pritchard went 4-1 overall, but lost his first-round match. He came back with four consecutive wins to place ninth.
Badger loss
On Jan. 17, the Wolverines managed just four wins in a 52-16 loss to Lake Geneva Badger.
Nick Lancaster, at 120 pounds, won a 5-3 decision, Azarian took an 11-3 major decision, Fisher win by pin in 32 seconds, and Nannemann took an 8-4 decision.
Waterford forfeited three matches, which gave Badger 18 points.
With the loss, the Wolverine boys are now 8-10 overall in duals, and 2-4 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Schedule
Waterford finished its dual season when it hosted Burlington on Thursday in an SLC dual.
The SLC Meet will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at Burlington, with the opening round beginning at 9:30 a.m.
