Just how good was Waterford’s competition at the Travis Wichlacz Dual Invitational last weekend at West Bend East?
Four Wolverine grapplers went undefeated in the tournament, but it was only good enough to give Waterford a fourth place finish out of six teams.
Waterford’s talented duo of Max Fischer and Justin Ratkovec both improved to 25-0 on the season with undefeated performances, while Senior Nick Mastrocola at 220 and 285 and Tanner Cadman at 152 also finished 5-0 over the weekend.
Fischer once again dominated the 145 weight class with four pins and a victory by technical fall.
Ratkovec, meanwhile, was just as almost as impressive, finishing 4-0 in the tournament with three pins and a win by forfeit at the 113 and 120 weight classes.
Mastrocola also racked up four pins to go along with his decision at 285, while Cadman pinned three wrestlers and victory via forfeit.
Other Waterford winning performers included Senior Liam Pritchard’s 4-1 record at 182/195.
The impressive Wolverine performers were not enough to slow down West Bend East, who won the tournament championship with a 5-0 team record. West Bend West (4-1) and Germantown (3-2) finished second and third respectively.
Waterford fared much better last Thursday night, knocking off Westosha Central 36-31 in a Southern Lakes Conference meet.
Fisher led the way for the Wolverines, pinning Brad Hausner in 3:42 at 145, while Ratkovec pinned Matt Biggs in 3:47 at 113.
Cadman also notched an impressive pin in 38 seconds at 160.
Other Wolverine victories included Pritchard’s pin in 1:48 at 182, Nick Mastrocola’s victory via pin at 220, and Tyler Teg’s 6-5 decision at 285.
Waterford will look to improve its performance this weekend when it participates in the Badger Invitational at Lake Geneva Badger High School.
