Myah Kurhajec went down swinging in her final match as a member of the Waterford Union High School girls volleyball team.
Kurhajec and the Wolverines lost three tight sets Oct. 20 at Germantown in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal match, and their season came to a close.
Waterford, seeded 11th in the 14-team bracket, lost 25-23, 25-22, 25-22. Sixth-seeded Germantown lost 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 to third-seeded Hartland Arrowhead in the regional final match Oct. 22 at Hartland.
Ingish said Kurhajec played “lights out” in her final high school volleyball match. Kurhajec led the team with 25 kills from her defensive specialist position, which is known as the Libero.
“I could not be more pleased with how she stepped into the Libero role with a “never say die” attitude,” Ingish said. “She truly played every point like it was her last. I can’t wait to see what she will accomplish playing at the collegiate level.”
The Wolverines’ Mia Grunze finished with 19 kills and 17 digs. Aspyn Krygiel tallied 28 assists. Gabi Ramczyk finished with eight kills and eight digs.
“Any season-ending game is always tough to swallow, but I’m so proud of how far we have come this season,” coach Ashley Ingish said. “We have grown as a team, as individuals, and as volleyball players. I think that’s what makes this loss so hard – knowing that we have come so far and were so close.”
