Lauren Torhorst scored four goals and the Wolverines beat Waukesha North 5-0 April 29 in a non-conference girls high school soccer match at Waterford.
The Demons beat the Wolverines 5-0 April 25 in a SLC match at Burlington.
Waterford played Wilmot (1-6, 0-1-0 SLC) Tuesday at home in a SLC match. The Wolverines play a non-conference match today against the Hawks (6-4-1) at The Prairie School in Wind Point as part of the Racine County Showcase.
Against North (0-11-1) Torhorst assumed Waterford’s career scoring record, and became the second player in Wolverines history to score 100 goals.
Torhorst needed one goal to tie the record and two to set it heading into the match. She scored three goals in the first half and one in the second, and has 19 goals through eight matches this season.
Torhorst also holds Waterford’s single-season scoring record of 44 goals, which she set in 2015.
Jordan (Spaciel) Dinjer held the Wolverines’ previous scoring record of 106. Dinjer is currently the girls soccer coach at Wausau West.
Torhorst, a senior, will attend Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. this fall on a Division 1 soccer scholarship.
“We played with purpose, went up to challenge for headers, worked hard to gain and keep possession, and pressured their back line a lot,” Waterford coach Rob Blascoe said of the match against North.
Joy French found Lexi Neubauer off a restart near the far post and Lexi volleyed it out of the air with her first touch to put Waterford up 1-0, according to Blascoe. Torhorst then responded with four straight goals.
Blascoe said the Wolverines (4-2, 0-1-0 SLC) were outplayed, and were tentative, against Burlington.
“We didn’t react well defensively,” Blascoe said. “They are too good of a team to allow them space to work in with no pressure, and we didn’t pressure their possession or shots well enough.
“We created a couple of really nice chances in the first half, but they were both saved by the Burlington keeper and we really didn’t seriously threaten them much at all in the second half.”
The Demons (5-1-1, 2-2 SLC) led 3-0 at halftime.
