Josh Koszarek shot an 83 and will represent the Waterford Union High School boys golf team May 31 in a WIAA Division 1 sectional tournament at Naga-Waukee Golf Club in Delafield.
Koszarek advanced as an individual qualifier out of a Division 1 regional event Tuesday at Edgewood Golf Club in Big Bend.
The top four teams and top four individuals not part of one of the top four teams advance from the regional to the sectional tournament.
The top two teams and top two individuals not part of one of the top two teams advance from the sectional to the state meet.
The WIAA Division 1 State Boys Golf Tournament is June 5-6 at University Ridge in Madison.
“As a whole, today went pretty well,” Waterford coach Mike Harmeling said. “We had to wait until the final foursome was off the course to see if we were going to qualify as a team. In the end, we fell a few shots short.
“We were fortunate to get Josh Koszarek through to Sectionals. Josh shot an 83 to qualify.”
Koszarek, a freshman, posted scores of 41 on his first nine and 42 on his second nine.
Waterford’s Logan Adams shot an 86 and Alan Oliver finished at 89. Max Blank shot a 97 and Skylar Kitzke finished at 100.
Mukwonago’s Mason Schulz shot a 70 and won individual medalist honors on his home course. Mukwonago hosted the regional.
Waterford finished with a team score of 355 – nine shots out of fourth place. Waukesha West finished fourth (346).
Mukwonago won the regional (306). Kettle Moraine finished second (314) and Union Grove third (338). Waukesha South finished sixth (363), Burlington seventh (373) and Waukesha North eighth (383).
“The good news is everyone will be back for next year,” Harmeling said. “There is going to be a lot of competition next season, with as many individuals that are returning.”
