The Waterford Union High School boys tennis team won 6-1 May 8 at home against Delavan-Darien and ensured the program a winning record in Southern Lakes Conference dual meets.
Waterford finished fourth May 6 in the Racine County Invitational, which took place at Burlington and Waterford high schools.
The Wolverines lost 5-2 to Westosha Central May 4 in a SLC dual meet at Paddock Lake and beat Racine Case 5-2 May 3 at home in a non-conference dual meet. Waterford won 4-3 at home May 2 in a SLC dual meet against Union Grove.
Waterford competes today and Saturday in the SLC Tournament at Westosha Central High School in Paddock Lake.
Waterford finished 4-3 in SLC dual meets and 7-5 overall with the win against Delavan-Darien.
At No. 1 singles, the Wolverines Andrew Brockmann beat the Comets’ Julian Moralez 6-0, 6-2.
Sam Fay won 6-2, 6-2 against Ian Bullock at No 2 singles, Connor Louis won 6-0, 6-1 against Raymond Wang at No. 3 singles and Josh Fay, at No. 4 singles, beat Hector Padilla 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 1 doubles, Nate Buchholtz and Ryan Dalton beat Julian Ochoa and Ismael Coello 6-3, 6-3. Ethan Brannen and Sam Burazin beat the Comets’ Jakob Driscoll and Seth Grabow 6-2, 7-6 (6) at No. 2 singles.
Sam Fay at No. 2 singles and Josh Fay at No 4 singles won matches against Central.
The Wolverines finished third in five flights at the County Invitational. Josh Fay at No. 3 singles Ryan Dalton at No. 4 singles finished third.
Each of Waterford’s doubles flights finished third. Nate Buchholtz and Andrew Brockmann played at No. 1, Ethan Brannen and Sam Burazin played at No. 2 and Alex Roegner and Trevor Ellenberg played at No. 3 doubles.
Ellenberg and Roegner at No. 3 doubles and Brockmann and Buchholtz at No. 1 doubles also won against Case.
Sam Fay at No. 1 singles, Connor Louis at No. 2 singles and Josh Fay at No. 3 singles also won against the Eagles.
Coach Mike Schuster said the Fays played well, and helped clinch the dual meet against Case. Sam Fay beat Peter Monti 6-4, 7-6 (2) and Josh Fay defeated Zhou Chang, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
“Josh lost the first set and won a close second,” Schuster said. “He then dominated the third to give the team its fourth individual win of the night and secure the dual meet win against the Eagles, but it wasn’t over.”
At No. 1 singles, Sam Fay won the first set, but trailed 5-0 in the second set before tying the score at 5-5 and winning the tie-breaker.
