James Thomas Luhn, 77, died Oct. 29, 2011. He was born Nov. 16, 1933, in Burlington, to the late John Benedict and Mary (Juranek) Luhn.
He married Elaine Lois on Aug. 31, 1957, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Burlington. They have one child, Kim Marie Luhn, born July 14, 1959.
He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary and High schools in Burlington, graduating in 1951. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served during the Korean War until 1956. He attended the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and graduated in 1963 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was employed for 25 years by the U.S. General Accounting Office. His job took the family in several directions including Colorado, Maryland, and Utah where he retired in 1987.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, tennis, and playing Texas Hold ’em poker in Wendover, Nev.
Survivors include his wife and daughter; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Geraldine (Lois) and Joseph Mesec; Eugene and Karen (Eckert) Lois; Marlene (Lois) Paprocki; and nieces and nephews.
He was further preceded in death by his stepmother, Elizabeth (Crane) Luhn; brother, John Luhn; sister-in-law, Barbara (Conrad) Luhn; sister, Mary Etta (Luhn) Pauer; brother-in-law, Thomas Pauer; and brother-in-law Gerald Paprocki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington. The Rev. James Volkert will officiate. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home & Crematory, Burlington, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to an organization for cancer research or a charity of choice are suggested.
