A spirited third-quarter comeback wasn’t enough to carry the Burlington Demons Friday in a homecoming game loss to visiting Wilmot.
The visiting Panthers withstood a Burlington rally that cut the lead to two points late in the third quarter, but that was as close as the Demons would get as Wilmot pulled away to win it, 52-37.
The loss dropped Burlington to 2-5 overall (1-4 Southern Lakes Conference) and knocked them out of playoff contention. Quarterback Jayden Essman led the Demons passing for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
