The season ended Feb. 15 at the WIAA Division 1 Racine Case Sectional Tournament at Carthage College in Kenosha for the Burlington Combined boys swimming team.

No one from the Demons advanced out of the sectional to the WIAA Division1 State Boys Swimming and Diving Meet, which is Saturday at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison.

The Demons did not spend the day in vain.

“Every boy on the team, except for one, got their lifetime best time in all the events,” BC coach Denita Jones said. “We accomplished what we set out to do – get our best times, so I couldn’t ask for anything more from the boys.

“They all had wonderful meets.”

The winner of each event at the state’s six Division 1 sectionals, plus those with the next 18 fastest times state-wide, advanced to State.

Burlington Combined consists of swimmers from Burlington, Burlington Catholic Central, East Troy, Union Grove and Waterford high schools.

The Demons competed in one of the state’s strongest Division 1 sectionals, and finished ninth of 11 teams with a total of 145 points.

“The times at the sectional this year were insanely better than last year,” Denita Jones said. “My boys all performed really well. I was really pleased with all their performances.”

Franklin won the sectional with 326.5 points. Kenosha Tremper finished second (283), Racine Case third (254) Lake Geneva fourth (242) and Kenosha Indian Trail fifth (189).

Herman, Bryce Filer, David Jones and Weingart finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.80). Denita Jones said the relay dropped two seconds from its previous lifetime best.
