Charred remains

The main floor showroom at Schuette-Daniels Furniture remains a charred mess on Tuesday as members of the Daniels family consider their options for the future of the store, which has been in business at various locations since 1929. Owner Matt Daniels said that decision will likely hinge on the insurance settlement the business — which had $1 million in inventory at the time of the fire — receives. Officials said they had not determined the cause of the fire as of Tuesday, but they don’t believe it was the result of a criminal act.
