Burlington celebrated the 100th anniversary of its Abraham Lincoln statue Sunday with a ceremony befitting the president roundly regarded as the country’s finest. About 100 people turned out for the event hosted by the Burlington Historical Society at the foot of the recently restored statue near the intersection of Kane and Jefferson streets. In addition to a speech from Mayor Bob Miller (above) and excerpts from Lincoln’s second inaugural address – which the statue depicts – the audience heard a keynote speech from Steven Rogstad, a nationally known Lincoln scholar, who called the statue a one-of-a-kind treasure for Burlington.
