The spring is the most active sports season of the school year, with the most sports and the strangest weather.
Baseball and softball took a good month to get into the swing of things thanks to the effects of the treacherous winter, and state tracksters battled through rain and lightning in La Crosse.
With all the ups and downs, the three area teams, Waterford, Union Grove and Burlington, managed plenty of accolades on the all-SLC team.
Union Grove managed the most athletes of the year, with state 400-meter champion Cassy Goodrich in women’s track, Andy Hatch in men’s track and David Leffler in tennis.
Both Hatch and Leffler advanced to their respective state tournaments.
Waterford also had multiple athletes of the year, with senior Zach Nash taking honors in golf and sophomore goalie earning co-player of the year honors in soccer.
Burlington was first among the trio of schools with nine first team honorees. Union Grove had eight, and Waterford featured seven.
The Demons’ most heavily represented first team was soccer, where Merin Mundt, Ashlyn Barry and Tegan Rock all earned first team accolades.
Waterford also had three soccer first-teamers, Lauren Torhorst, Natalie Pufahl and Wenck.
The Grove’s best showing beside track came in tennis, where Leffler, Zack Allain and CJ Maurer were all on the first team.
Here is the full list of SLC honorees:
