10:00 p.m. – New City of Burlington Mayor Jeannie Hefty said she would reach out to the younger generation, hoping to attract them to Burlington … and keep them here.
“They’re our future,” Hefty said. “I’ve been talking to professionals who work here, but don’t live here. I want to change that.”
In other elections in Burlington, Kelly Iselin earned the Burlington municipal judge position, unseating long-time incumbent Marv Daniel.
9:25 p.m. – With all City of Burlington wards reporting, challenger Jeannie Hefty – a former Burlington mayor – earned the mayor’s seat, defeating incumbent Bob Miller.
“It is what it is,” said Miller. “I was hoping for more. The voters wanted change and they got it.”
Miller said the city had made great strides over the last eight year. Those included economic growth, and transparency regarding the city via the city website and dashboard tool.
“We’ve kept the city growing and moving forward,” Miller said. “I’m happy it’s over. I’ll get my life back.”
It’s great for the city too, Miller had to go! Congrats hefty
Great news! Congratulations to Burlington’s electorate for seeking new leadership.
