While many communities are struggling to attract new housing, the City of Burlington is on the verge of approving a new subdivision that could bring 300 new homes to the area.
The Common Council is scheduled Dec. 6 to vote on a rezoning plan that would pave the way for the massive development.
The development is among the top stories in this week’s edition of the Burlington Standard Press. The newspaper is available at local retail outlets and subscribers will receive their copies with Friday’s mail.
Here’s a look at some of the other stories in this week’s edition:
COURT NEWS: A motion hearing is scheduled for Dec. 9 for a former Burlington man, now of Davenport, Iowa, charged with 84 felony and misdemeanor offenses for sexually assaulting multiple woman and girls.
A WINNING LIE: If you don’t take yourself too seriously and enjoy spinning a yarn, you can obtain immortality (sort of) by being the 2022 winner of the Burlington Liars Club’s annual World Champion Lie Contest.
UPGRADES FOR SENIORS: For years, the Burlington Senior Activity Center didn’t have consistent air conditioning through the entire building, and uneven heat distribution. However, courtesy of donated funds members of the Burlington Senior Activity Center can rest comfortably with a new heating and ventilation unit as well as a new roof.
LOVING THE HUNT: Life is measured by the passage of time and the season of deer hunting gives columnist Chris Hardie plenty of moments to reflect on past memories.
SPORTS IN PICTURES: With the fall season complete and the winter season starting, we look back at the fall season in photos.
