Thomas “Tom” Jeffrey Nicholson, 61, passed away on Jan. 2, 2025. He was born on Feb. 12, 1963 in Burlington, the son of Kathryn M. and Leland W. Nicholson.
Tom started his education at a preschool in Burlington, which was introduced by Western Racine County ARC. This local ARC chapter was founded by Tom’s parents, Nick and Kathie, in the early 1970s. Tom continued his education at Sunny Grove School in Union Grove and graduated with the Class of 1974.
After school, Tom worked at Careers Industries, a Sheltered Workshop in Burlington, known for empowering individuals with disabilities. On Sundays Tom attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Burlington.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents, caretaker Chuck Rowntree and friend Peter Ahler. He is survived by his brother, Robert Nicholson; sisters Carol (Phil Greif) Nicholson, Deborah (Bob Lucas) Nicholson and Mary Jo (Dave) Krings; caretakers Patti Rushing, Carol Rowntree, and Penny Adolph; and friend Ryan Andry. Tom’s nephews and nieces include Amy Zehner, Zach Nicholson, Matt Nicholson, Justin Lesko, Keras Lesko, Megan Myllyla, and Neil Krings.
Tom was a very happy fellow and had many friends. He enjoyed participating in Special Olympics and bringing home ribbons from Track and Field events. He also enjoyed his hobbies that included latch-hooking and artwork. Tom was a big fan of Star Wars and Super Heroes. His collection of figures, books, posters and t-shirts was something he was really proud of. And, let us not forget those Friday Fish Fries and dining at his favorite restaurant, Culvers!
No funeral services are planned. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2025.
